Eight McAllen ISD students earn spots in Area, Region Jazz Bands

McAllen ISD had eight students selected following the Region XV TMEA High School All-Region Jazz Band auditions held in Edinburg recently.

Two of these students earned First Chair. They are Dylan Hernandez, bass trombonist from McAllen High and Isaac Carrera, tenor trombonist from McAllen Memorial High.

Two other students earned spots on the Area Jazz Band. They are Alex Martinez, tenor trombonist from McAllen High and Nicole Payne, trumpet from Memorial High.

All four of these students are now one step away from being selected as a member of the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) All-State Jazz Band.

“For this competition, only a limited number of students are selected,” McAllen ISD Fine Arts Director Jim Egger said. “These students and their music teachers have been working very hard in preparation for this audition. Congratulations to these very talented and hard-working musicians.”

The students are: Dylan Hernandez, bass trombone, McAllen High, First Chair and Area Jazz member; Alex Martinez, tenor trombone, McAllen High, Area Jazz member; Isaac Carrera, tenor trombone, Memorial High, First Chair and Area Jazz member; Nicole Payne, trumpet, Memorial High, Area Jazz member; Abraham Torres, tenor trombone, Memorial High, Region Jazz member; Esteban Lepe, percussion, Memorial High, Region Jazz member; Israel Guzman, tenor saxophone, Rowe High, Region Jazz member; and Silvano Lozano, bari saxophone, Rowe High, Region Jazz member.
