We’d like to take the time to share some exciting news about our program with y'all and thank you for your continued support of our talented and hardworking students throughout the course of the year.
Aside from performing for nearly 30 events this school year already, they have also been hard at work with multiple auditions and competitions with even more
to come!
Huge congratulations go out to McHi Mariachi Oro Freshman, Allyson Contador, McHi Mariachi Junior, Isabel Garza-Johnson, and Travis Middle School 6th Grader, Joshua Gámez-Cuéllar, for advancing to the 31st Annual Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza National Vocal Competition! Out of a record-breaking number of vocal entries nationwide, with only 20 high school spots and 10 middle school spots advancing, they delivered spectacular performances to secure their spots among the best of the best in the largest and most competitive mariachi vocal competition of its kind!
They will be competing at the semi-finals round in San Antonio, TX at the Lila Cockrell Theatre, from December 4th-6th, 2025, with an opportunity to advance to the finals to compete across all divisions in pursuit of the “Best in The U.S. National Vocal Grand Champion” title, along with thousands of dollars in scholarships and performance opportunities for the top-placing students!
Please help us wish them the very best in the next round as they represent Travis Middle School, McAllen High School, & McAllen ISD with pride! Outstanding job by all! We are extremely proud of them!
